Barnardo's Will Scheme Lends a Helping Hand to Future Generations

22nd July 2013

A Halifax-based Barnardo’s project offering support to vulnerable children and families played host to a visit by local law firm QualitySolicitors BHP Clarksons last week.

Staff from BHP Clarksons in Halifax spent the afternoon chatting to staff at Barnardo’s Cornerstone project in Elland.

The visit was organised to highlight Barnardo’s valuable work with families in the area and show how the firm and local people can get involved and lend their support.

Barnardo’s has joined forces with BHP Clarksons nationwide to offer a Will-writing service to help local residents put their affairs in order and give them the opportunity to leave a gift in their Will that will help fund the charity’s work in the future.

Barnardo's covers the cost of a basic Will for people 55 years old or over in the hope they will be moved to leave a lasting legacy in their Wills to Barnardo's.

There is no obligation for individuals and couples to leave a gift in their Wills to Barnardo’s; however every gift - large or small - will help fund the charity's vital work transforming the lives of some of Britain’s most vulnerable children and young people in the future.

Dylan Carroll from Barnardo’s said: “The visit gave our partners at QualitySolicitors BHP Clarksons the opportunity to see the life-changing work that Barnardo's does in the local area. Legacies are the lifeblood of Barnardo's and account for nearly half of the money received from the public each year. This is both humbling and the inspiration for the scheme to encourage people, who maybe hadn’t thought about remembering Barnardo's in their Will, to do so.”

The partnership with BHP Clarksons, a network of local law firms, and Barnardo’s, has been running nationwide since 2010, during which time more than 1,000 people have decided to pledge money as part of their Will.

Helen Gott from QualitySolicitors BHP Clarksons said: “QualitySolicitors BHP Clarksons is delighted to be supporting Barnardo's through this unique Will scheme. Not only do we get to assist people in our local community to bring their affairs in order, but together we can help raise much needed legacy support for the UK’s largest children’s charity”.
