Mental Health

Any of us might have a problem with mental health – our own or that of a relative – at any time. As with any health problem, this can be a worrying time – often more so because we rarely discuss mental health, and tend not to understand the process for getting treatment.

At BHP Law, we recognise the concerns that any of us would have in dealing with these issues, and we are keen to help. We take the time to try to understand the issues that you have and to devise the best plan to help and advise you.

We have a team of specialists who work in this area of the law, assisting both patients and their families. The vast majority of our work is paid for through our contract with the Legal Aid Agency, which means that it is unlikely that you will have to pay any fees yourself.

In particular, our specialist team can help and represent you in connection with any of these matters:

  • Mental Health Tribunals

  • Hospital Managers Meetings / Hearings

  • Consent to Treatment

  • Care Programme Approach / Section 117 Discharge Meetings / Aftercare

  • Informal Patients with issues whilst detained

  • Nearest Relative Representation

  • Displacement of Nearest Relative

  • Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards

  • Community Treatment Orders

  • Transferred Prisoners

  • Unlawful Detention

If you have been detained under the Mental Health Act, or if you are having issues with your treatment or that of a family member, please do get in touch.
