Corporate Social Responsibility

Since 1835, we have grown alongside the community of the North East, steadfast in our dedication to giving back and fostering positive change.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment reflects our dedication to ethical practices, social equity, and environmental sustainability.

At BHP Law, we are committed to the communities we serve. Recognising their vital role in our success, we established the Point North BHP Law Community Fund to make a meaningful difference. Created in 2011, the fund supports local initiatives, and organisations that enhance the well-being and development of our region. By investing in our communities, we aim to foster growth, address local needs, and improve residents’ quality of life.

We are particularly passionate about supporting mental health groups, assisting vulnerable individuals within minority groups, and strengthening community hubs. Through these initiatives, we strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone can thrive.

This fund is a testament to our dedication to social responsibility and our belief in the power of community engagement to create positive change.

At BHP Law, we are dedicated to minimising our environmental footprint. We have implemented eco-friendly practices in our offices, such as energy-efficient lighting, recycling programmes, and digital documentation to reduce paper use. Additionally, we support environmental initiatives and advocate for policies that protect our planet for future generations.

Our mission is to be a leader of positive change within the legal sector. To commit to environmentally friendly practices, we have implemented various schemes, including:

  • Responsibly recycling everything, from paper to large-scale electrical devices.
  • Supporting environmental initiatives and advocating for policies through partnerships like the Darlington Employers Environment Partnership (DEEP), a collaboration of like-minded local businesses working towards sustainable outcomes.
  • Encouraging our employees to make greener choices outside of work through our electric car salary sacrifice scheme.
  • Striving towards a paperless office by implementing DocuSign and digitalised post.
  • Choosing energy suppliers that use renewables.

At BHP Law, giving back to the community is a core value, made possible by the unwavering dedication of our employees. We actively support and encourage our staff to participate in various activities, including:

  • Fundraising activities for causes close to their hearts
  • Pro bono work
  • Free will campaigns
  • Supporting local hospices through memberships such as St Cuthbert’s Hospice’s 88 Club
  • Upskilling and work experience programmes
  • CV and interview workshops with local schools and colleges
  • Supporting young people’s career growth through initiatives like the North East Solicitor Apprenticeship Programme

In addition, BHP Law proudly supports Beamish Museum as Business Friends of Beamish, a partnership that underscores our commitment to preserving and celebrating the region’s rich history and cultural heritage. This collaboration highlights our dedication to community development and fostering a deeper connection to the North East’s identity and legacy. It is a privilege to stand alongside Beamish in ensuring that future generations can experience and appreciate the vibrant stories that have shaped our region.

Collaboration is essential for driving positive change. BHP Law partners with various organisations, businesses, and community groups to address social and environmental challenges.

Together, we can achieve more and create a lasting impact. By working in unison, we strive to build a stronger, more inclusive community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

The BHP Law Community Fund supports local initiatives, projects, and organisations that enhance the well-being and development of the North East.
