Parent and Child Together North East (PACTNE) has received vital funding from the BHP Law Community Fund, distributed by Point North, to support its mission of providing intensive, wraparound support for vulnerable families across Darlington, the Tees Valley, and the North of England. This grant has enabled PACTNE to recruit a part-time Family Support Worker, expanding its team and increasing its capacity to meet rising demand.
The BHP Law Community Fund, managed and distributed by Point North, is committed to supporting organisations that create tangible change in their communities. Since its launch in 2011, the BHP Law Community Fund has awarded over £19,000 in grants and enriched the lives of more than 9,000 local people. By directing support towards programmes that promote inclusion, resilience, and wellbeing, the Fund ensures resources reach those who need them most, supporting organisations like PACTNE that deliver lasting impact.
The new part-time Family Support Worker will provide essential reinforcement to the team and will offer vital hands-on support for families in times of need. The role includes offering one-to-one support sessions, parenting advice, practical family care, emotional wellbeing support, and crisis response. PACTNE’s impact is evident with 79% of families returning to the community as intact family units, its model offers proven, life-changing outcomes.
Sue Leighton, General Manager at PACTNE, said: “BHP Law’s support has been timely and transformative. Their contribution through their Community Fund allowed us to expand our team exactly when we needed it most. With their help, we’ve been able to maintain consistent, high-quality support for families facing extraordinary challenges. They’ve not just helped fund a position, they’ve helped keep families together.”
Reflecting on the partnership, Kieran Dolaghan, Operations Director at BHP Law, shared: “We’re incredibly proud to support PACTNE through the BHP Law Community Fund. Their work doesn’t just change outcomes, it transforms lives. When families are at risk of breaking down, the support PACTNE offers can mean the difference between crisis and stability, trauma and recovery. We’re honoured to be part of that journey.”
Michelle Cooper, Chief Executive of Point North, commented: “PACTNE is a shining example of what happens when local organisations are empowered to do what they do best, walk alongside families during their most difficult times. We’re delighted that the BHP Law Community Fund, distributed through Point North, could help strengthen this essential service and give more parents and children the chance to thrive in safe, loving homes.”
This partnership between PACTNE, BHP Law, and Point North shows what’s possible when communities unite to invest in dignity, safety, and hope. It’s more than a grant, it’s a shared commitment to helping families heal and move forward together.
PACTNE has bold ambitions to reach even more families in times of crisis but they can’t do it alone.
We invite local businesses to be part of the solution. Whether through fundraising, volunteering, or practical support, your involvement can help grow life-changing services and keep more families safely together.
Together, we can build stronger, more resilient communities.
