Hurworth Village Hall, a cherished community hub in the heart of Hurworth-on-Tees is the latest charity to receive a boost from the BHP Law Community Fund, distributed by Point North.
Since its launch in 2011, the Fund has awarded over £19,000 to grassroots projects and enriched the lives of nearly 9,000 local people.
Thanks to this latest grant, vital remedial works have been carried out to preserve the building’s fabric, ensuring it remains a welcoming space for residents far and wide.
The Need for Restoration
Hurworth Village Hall, approximately 150 years old, is a registered charity established in 1966 to provide an inclusive environment where people can participate in a variety of activities and events. Over time, the age of the building caused internal areas to show significant signs of wear and tear; as a result, maintenance had become increasingly urgent.
This vital community hub plays an essential role in reducing loneliness, fostering social connections, and promoting community integration in an area with limited public transport. Recent growth in footfall has underscored the importance of keeping the hall in good condition to continue serving the community.
Completed Work
Thanks to funding from BHP Law, professional decorators were hired, and the necessary work has now been successfully completed. The restoration has brought the hall up to a high standard of decoration, transforming it into a bright and inviting space. These improvements ensure the hall continues to be a valuable resource for the community and a welcoming environment for all.
Community Impact
This restoration highlights the importance of maintaining community hubs like Hurworth Village Hall. Vulnerable members of the community depend on the hall for its friendly and supportive atmosphere, and the enhancements have preserved its ability to fulfil this essential role.
Kieran Dolaghan, Director of Operations at BHP Law, emphasised the significance of supporting community hubs: "Looking after spaces like Hurworth Village Hall is essential. These community hubs combat loneliness, foster connections, and provide a lifeline for many people. We're proud to support such an important resource through our fund at Point North."
Bill Drumm, representing the Hurworth Village Hall committee, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support: "It's brilliant to see a local business like BHP Law recognising the importance of keeping this vital service going. Their support has allowed us to continue offering a welcoming space for everyone."

Without investment in our community hubs, there wouldn’t be community. These spaces are often the first place people turn to when they need support, connection or simply a warm welcome.
