Joshua Butterwick
Solicitor Service areas: Court Of Protection

Joshua’s legal journey began with a training contract at a regional law firm in 2017, where he developed a strong foundation in family law and Court of Protection matters. In 2020, he moved to a new firm that allowed him to deepen his focus on Court of Protection work, particularly representing individuals who lack capacity. His practice has included close collaboration with advocates, Relevant Person’s Representatives (RPRs), and the Official Solicitor to bring challenges under the Mental Capacity Act.

In December 2023, Joshua successfully completed the Mental Capacity (Welfare) Accreditation, earning Accredited Legal Representative (ALR) status. Since then, he has continued to expand his Court of Protection practice: regularly appointed by the Court to act as ALR in complex welfare cases, including applications under sections 21A and 16 of the Mental Capacity Act, ensuring the rights and voices of vulnerable individuals are robustly represented.

In September 2025, Joshua joined BHP Law as a member of the Court of Protection Health and Welfare team. His work continues to focus on representing individuals who lack capacity, with a particular emphasis on safeguarding their rights and promoting their best interests through skilled and compassionate legal advocacy.
