From Receptionist to Qualified Lawyer: Debbie’s Inspiring Journey Earns National Recognition in The Times

Everyone’s career journey is different, and sometimes the most inspiring stories are those that begin with an ambition that once seemed out of reach. At BHP Law, we are delighted to celebrate the achievements of Debbie Palmer-Gittins, whose remarkable route into the legal profession has recently been featured in The Times.

The national coverage follows an especially proud period in Debbie’s career, including a trip to London to attend her graduation ceremony, marking the successful completion of her qualification journey. Seeing her achievements recognised in a leading national newspaper is a fitting next chapter in a story that reflects years of dedication, perseverance and hard work.

Debbie’s journey is one of determination, resilience and a genuine passion for helping people. Beginning her career in legal support and administrative roles, she discovered a keen interest in family law and set her sights on becoming a lawyer. Rather than following the traditional university route, Debbie pursued qualification through CILEX, allowing her to continue working, support her family and develop her legal expertise at the same time.

Today, Debbie is a valued member of our Family Law team, helping clients through some of the most important and challenging times in their lives. Her story demonstrates that there is more than one route into the legal profession and that talent, ambition and commitment can open doors that may once have seemed impossible.

Her dedication and hard work have now earned national recognition, with The Times highlighting her journey as part of a feature exploring alternative pathways into the legal profession.

Reflecting on her qualification journey, Debbie told The Times:

“I’ve found my passion and now have a rewarding legal career with far more opportunities open to me, thanks to the CPQ.”

Speaking following the publication of the article, Debbie added:

“Qualifying as a lawyer is something I once thought was beyond my reach. Balancing work, family life and studying wasn’t always easy, but every challenge was worth it. I’m incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received throughout my career at BHP Law and proud to be helping clients in an area of law that I’m passionate about. To have my journey recognised by The Times is an honour, and I hope it encourages others to believe that there is more than one path to a successful legal career.”

At BHP Law, we are passionate about creating opportunities for people to develop rewarding careers and fulfil their potential. Debbie’s success is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when determination meets opportunity, and of the value that alternative qualification routes can bring to the legal profession.

Sharon Boyd, Chief Operating Officer at BHP Law said:

“Debbie’s journey is exactly the kind of success story we love to celebrate at BHP Law! Her commitment, resilience and determination have been exceptional, and we are incredibly proud to see her achievements recognised nationally in The Times. Debbie is a fantastic ambassador for the profession and an inspiration to anyone considering an alternative route into law.”

We are incredibly proud of Debbie and all that she has achieved. From her graduation ceremony in London to national recognition in The Times, her journey is a testament to the power of hard work, dedication and believing in what’s possible. Watch this space!

Congratulations, Debbie, on this thoroughly deserved recognition. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for you.
