Karen Pratt is a Partner and isjoint Head of our Wills, Trusts and Probate team, which incorporates our Court of Protection team, alongside Helen Biglin.
Karen Pratt qualified in 1986 at which time she immediately went into partnership with Tony Deas, practising in Newcastle upon Tyne. She was one of five founder partners in the specialist litigation firm of Deas Mallen Souter. At that time Karen specialised in clinical negligence and related matters including high profile multi party litigation. In 1997 she joined Blackett Hart & Pratt as a partner and additionally qualified as a Financial Adviser two years later.
She has been acting as a Professional Court of Protection Deputy and Professional Trustee for over 10 years, her previous experience in clinical negligence and personal injury litigation being an asset.
She acts as Professional Deputy for approximately 37 clients and as a Professional Trustee for a further 12. Her financial knowedge has helped when dealing with the management of their financial affairs including capital of over £50m in total and additional independent income of over £1m per annum. The clients have varying ranges of mental and physical disability. In addition to managing their compensation claims, Karen will also ensure they have all welfare benefits they are entitled to.
Karen identified the need to create a Court of Protection team within the Wills, Trust & Probate Department and has since trained additional Court of Protection Deputies Karen's workload has been created solely by personal referrals from clients, personal injury litigators, case managers and financial advisers.
Her practice continues to grow with Karen bringing Rebecca Stephenson into the team to train and develop her own caseload.
