COVID-19 (Coronavirus): Pay for employees in self-isolation

The Statutory Sick Pay (General) (Coronavirus Amendment) Regulations 2020 came into force today, Friday 13th March.

They provide that Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) will be available to anyone isolating themselves from other people in such a manner as to prevent infection or contamination with Coronavirus, in accordance with guidance published by Public Health England and by reason of that isolation is unable to work.

The anticipated Regulations providing that SSP will be payable from day one of an employee’s absence/self-isolation rather than day four and allowing employers to reclaim the cost from the Government have not yet been published. The government and public bodies are regularly changing their advice and implementing new rules and therefore we advise employers to regularly check the following sources of information:
