An award-winning solicitor who is inspiring the next generation of legal professionals has been made a partner.
Last month she was named Woman of the Year in the Tees Valley BME Achievement Awards 2019 that champion minority ethnic talent from the area for their contribution to the economic, social and cultural development of the North East.
John Pratt, managing partner of BHP Law, said: “Amanda has only been with us for a short time but has made a considerable impact with her passion for her job and for the outstanding service she gives to clients, often during a difficult period in their lives.
“I am delighted she has accepted the opportunity to become a partner and I am confident that she will continue to make a huge contribution to the firm.”
Amanda came to England from her native country, Nigeria as a teenager and lived and later studied law in London before moving to the North East in 2007 after her husband got a job in Richmond, North Yorkshire. She worked for firms in Darlington and Middlesbrough before joining BHP Law in Darlington where she specialises in divorce, separation, financial matters and arrangements for children, as well as pre-nuptial agreements, civil partnerships and co-habitation.
Amanda works to inspire the legal profession to open up opportunities for the next generation of lawyers and is helping to kickstart the careers of aspiring professionals through a new network for law students, graduates, trainees and newly qualified solicitors.
She provides a platform for young lawyers to increase their profile and is also regional representative of the North East Women Lawyers and Mothers Network, an organisation that seeks to inspire female lawyers and other senior professionals who are also mums.
Amanda said: “I am so pleased and honoured to have been recognised for my hard work and commitment to the firm by this promotion and I am proud to be a part of a firm that promotes and recognises diversity and inclusion. I look forward to working with the rest of my colleagues in driving our firm forward and to continue to promote a positive image of the firm. BHP Law is a firm committed to providing quality legal advice to clients across the region and providing access to justice to those who need it and those are the ethoses that form the basis of my legal career."
